It works…!

The jalopy unicrown fork mitering fixture works!

Tonight i tacked the dropouts in the fork fixture, took out the legs/dropouts and welded them up on the table, then put them back into the fork fixture for the first try at mitering the legs using the “horizonal” mini mill.

It was loud (the welding table just has a high natural frequency for some reason even though it’s bolted to the cement foundation) but it worked – flawlessly! Ok, not as good as a real unicrown mitering fixture on a beefy horizontal mill…but it’s good enough for me. The fixture was rigid, no movement in the legs at all, and a really nice job coping the tubes.  It really feels good to have all those hours end up making a fixture that works and can be repeated for other forks.
